Uphill Collection | Scott Hassler | PART 03

Scott points out that the horse actually has six gaits- the left and right of each gait. She needs different exercises for each side of the gait to work on her issues. He reviews keeping the contact and connection in the walk. The mare shows better and better engagement and connection in her trot work and performs great half halts, half passes and halts. Now they go to the trot work, keeping it light-footed without holding her with her leg. In the trot halt transitions he looks for the mare to be soft rather than leaning on the forehand. When the rider gets the mare more under herself and soft they perform a textbook trot halt transition. He points out that halts can be thirty points of the total score in a test, making them extremely important to perfect.
