Transitions For Jumping | Matt Brown | PART 03
15m
Part 3: As they begin to jump, the mare is fussy in the bridle. Matt explains that it's okay to hold the bit more firmly and give her a consistent place to be in the contact by using the hand, as long as the elbows are not restricting the movement of the neck. He reminds the rider that the horse is inconsistent in shape and balance over the fence, this is normal for her age and her experience level. He uses V poles and ground poles to support the horse and allow her to have a nicer jump. When the mare has some issues after the addition of the poles, Matt explains its better to have a stop than a run out, and that the biggest thing the mare has to learn besides just gaining the strength and the confidence to how to carry herself consistently through the transitions and gauge how to make that jump happen within this rhythm.
