Part 1: Jane beings the session by highlighting the difference between allowing the horse to stretch and asking him to stretch, and the rein feel they will use to achieve this. The begin working on the free walk, using the whip to back up the leg aide, and focusing on creating a productive stretch. Jane explains the correct use of the whip, and works with the rider to be consistent in her aides and follow through, and to use the whip without getting left behind when the horse reacts. As they gain confidence, Jane has the rider move to trot and canter. She coaches her through some exuberance from the horse in the higher gaits.
