Galway Symposium | Christopher Bartle | PART 01
11m
Part 1: The riders work around the arena, going over the cavaletti. Christopher emphasizes the importance of not looking down at them, or any obstacle and instead looking ahead and allowing the horse to sort their own feet out. Working with poles set up on a curve, Christopher is able to help the riders identify when they are drifting, and practice paying more attention and riding their line while steering with the legs rather than the hands. They move to the trot and work on ensuring the horse's are accepting of the outside rein inside leg, by turning the head slightly to the outside as they go around. Christopher reminds the riders to give with the hand and encourage the head and neck down so the horse can look at the cavaletti. He works with them on turning by moving across the saddle and opening the hip, rather than relying on the reins.
