Bend and the Outside Rein | Lisa Wilcox | TRAILER
6m 9s
Olympian Lisa Wilcox describes how she works with a horse with a strong underneck to develop a better topline. The horse needs to bend in ribcage to be able to stay on the outside rein. Her reins are the same length, she explains, but the outside rein is farther up than the inside reins to allow the horse to flex to the inside. Along with making sure the horse engages his hind end, this helps with his throughness. She also works on trot–canter transitions, maintaining the outside rein and bending, while using subtle aids.
