Whisper Shout Aids | Courtney King-Dye | PART 03
Rider Position and Aids
•
20m
Courtney reiterates how important it is to have a dead quiet leg, and only use it when applying an aid. She has the rider turn her heels out to make her more aware of when she is using her leg. They work on keeping him forward in the walk without a nagging leg, and not touching him. When they go to the canter, Courtney has them repeat the same exercise, encouraging the rider to be more picky about the departs. In the walk trot transitions they solidify just how much of an aid should be used for the transition. Courtney has her assistant trainer, Corrine, get on and demonstrate the way to effectively train the horse to be responsive to the aids. Corrine shows what a quiet leg looks like, and how to use the kicks that Courtney has been asking for, as well as the timing of the request and how important it is to reward the horse for a correct response. Courtney points out that the horse is rewarded when he goes forward, not when he comes back to the trot after over reacting with a canter.
