Clear Understanding of the Aids | Steffen Peters | PART 03
Rider Position and Aids
•
18m
When they come back to the canter the mare expresses her opinion, and Steffen helps her work through it diplomatically, emphasizing that she must have a clear understanding of the aids and respond correctly. When the horse swings a little wide behind, Steffen points out how that does need to be corrected, but also shows a horse that has potential in the half passes and other upper level movements. He has her ride off the rail to make sure she is straight and not using the rail to keep straight. They change directions through the trot while checking to make sure she is still on the aids, and then canter 20 meter circles looking for prompt and fluid transitions and collected steps. When they stretch at the end of the ride he cautions her against the mare pulling the reins out of her hand instead of reaching to the bridle. They ask for counter flexion and yielding from the leg while stretching, and making sure that she halts square and still every time.
