They begin with riding the serpentine, more as an S figure to increase the strength in the inside hind leg. If the mare moves off the bit in the figure, Mr. Hess has her ride a circle during the serpentine. He asks that she stretch down enabling her hind legs to move more. They try for this without over using the inside rein. He has her make sure that the down transitions are accurate. This talented rider shows a great example of asking for a walk trot transition with push from behind. They talk about the reins in the free walk.
