The canter is next, and Debbie helps her create a better tension in the reins while making sure that she holds the outside rein. When they go to the stretchy circle he pulls the reins out of her hands, and Debbie helps her to gradually let him stretch without rooting and while continuing to push from behind. They pick him up, hold him on the outside rein until he begs to stretch, and only give him a bit. In training, they don't just throw the reins and let him put his head down, but keep him honest in his stretch and only stretch him to the point he cooperates.
