They move to the trot, and Laura explains that this mare may have a year of going short in the neck while she learns how to seek contact with the bit, but that is a phase in her training. Laura has her leg yield at the trot from the quarterline to the wall, looking for straightness. They next work on the shoulder in as a means to develop control of the shoulders, and Laura explains the correct use of it as a training tool. They first ride it with little to no bend, and specifically move the shoulders. After a haunches in Laura has her ride a diagonal line from center line to the corner, moving to the half pass once the line is established. Laura talks her through how to ride a great half pass.
