Kristy explains and demonstrates how riding and jumping a horse in a grass arena can be different compared to riding and jumping in a sand, or similar type of footing, arena. A traditional arena is typically level and fairly similar from arena to arena. Grass arenas can vary widely depending on the uphill and downhill terrain as well as the firmness of the field. The rider will have to be better balanced and make more adjustments when riding over varied terrain.
