The instructor sets up an exercise with oxers and verticals to challenge the rider. They focus on setting up the canter and being prepared early, and then keeping it consistent until take off. As the fences are much higher, the instructors are able to use them to demonstrate to the rider how conscious riding becomes more important. Rather than coming in on a generic canter and hoping it works out, she is forced to be decisive and really ride.
