Part 1: The riders warm up while Jonathan reminds them that every horse will ride differently and it's important to know their individual horse and if they'll perform best on a dead straight line or a slight bend. As they work over some warm up fences, Jonathan challenges a rider to work harder and ride more, rather than relying on her talented mare to take care of her. He discusses the importance of position, and revisits basics such as keeping the hand closed around the reins, suppleness in the arms and elbows, and the importance of trusting the horse.
